Sugden offers condolences after young life lost on north coast

1 Mins read

EAST Londonderry MLA Claire Sugden has offered her sincere condolences after the “heart-breaking loss” of a young male off the north coast.

The 19-year-old was coasteering near Dunluce Castle on June 16 when the incident occurred.

Ms Sugden commended the efforts of the man’s friends who tried to rescue him, but urged caution when entering the sea along the north coast.

“It is heart-breaking to lose a young life,” she said. “I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

“I commend those young people who made every effort to rescue their friend and also the emergency services who attended the incident and brought others to safety.

“Please take care on our coastline. As we emerge from lockdown and the weather improves, of course we want to enjoy time outside and in the sea.”

Our waters, however, could be dangerous, particularly if you were unfamiliar or inexperienced, said the MLA.

“Take every advised precaution, swim with others and in lifeguarded areas,” added Ms Sugden.
