East Londonderry MLA Candidate Claire Sugden urges everyone to use their vote in the forthcoming Assembly election but says that people deserve more from their politicians.
As nominations closed Claire Sugden said:
“People are angry, I’m hearing it on the doorstep and in the street. Everywhere I go people tell me how badly let down they feel, that the Assembly they voted for less than a year ago has failed – because the largest parties refuse to work together.
Government has to work for everyone regardless of the community they come from. We need to urgently address the crisis in the Health Service, to deliver on education and jobs and to support the PSNI and NI Prison Service to keep us safe. Instead, we face the real threat that essential public services will fail, because big party politicians are already saying they will not work together after the election
Party politics and tribal divisions brought down this Assembly but people tell me this is not what they want, they want politicians who will put their needs first.
People deserve more, but the only way to change things is by voting. I urge everyone to use their vote, but in deciding who to vote for, to demand an end to division and petty minded sectarianism in the Assembly. To demand a commitment to working together on the issues that matter, for everyone in Northern Ireland.
That’s the promise I made to the votes in East Londonderry last May and I am making it again in this election.”
