Mr Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA and Constituency Chairman, has secured assurances from Transport Northern Ireland that measures will be taken to improve the conditions of a number of roads in the Bushmills locality.
Assemblyman Swann, the UUP Chief Whip and Chairman of the Stormont Public Accounts Committee, said: “I had contacted TransportNI and raised a road safety issue at the Distillery with an increased number of tourists crossing the road to the Spar, and asked if a safety assessment could be carried out at this point,” said Assemblyman Swann.
Responding to Mr Swann, a TransportNI representative said: “I will arrange for an assessment to be carried out on Main Street in the vicinity of the Spar shop to establish if there is a need for any additional pedestrian facilities at this location. An Initial Site Survey and Preliminary Assessment will be undertaken to ascertain whether a full assessment is required.
“This initial assessment will include carrying out a pedestrian/cycle/vehicle survey on Main Street in the vicinity of the Spar. I will get back to you with the outcome of the survey,” said the TransportNI representative.
Assemblyman Swann added: “I am pleased these situations are moving forward and the roads around Bushmills, especially the ones I have mentioned, will be made safer for all to use.”
