BT Coleraine

Police in Limavady arrested a 19 year old male following a report of a burglary at the home of an older couple in the Edenmore Road area on Friday 10th April.

The male was reported to have called to the front door of a house at around 5pm on Friday afternoon. Once the door was opened by the occupant, a woman aged in her 70’s, she was knocked to the floor by the male who pushed his way inside. The male demanded money from the woman and began to ransack the property. Fortunately family members called to the house as the incident was ongoing and disturbed the intruder who fled from the house through the back door.

Members of the family gave chase and a passing member of the public assisted in apprehending the suspect who was arrested a short time later. Further enquiries by police established that a male had entered the house of a neighbour, also a woman aged in her 70’s, in similar circumstances shortly before this incident, and stolen a number of items. Both women were left badly shaken as a result. The male was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft, two counts of burglary and two counts of common assault and currently remains in custody at this time.

Detectives would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Edenmore Road area or who has any information which could assist them with their enquiries to contact them in Coleraine on 101 quoting reference number 1476 10/04/20. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
