As the summer has progressed, the issue of coaches and cars parking at the bend of the Dunluce Road has become more dangerous. Whilst it is fantastic that this outstanding area is attracting more and more tourists, it is even more reason to ensure that all measures are taken to ensure public safety.
Coaches, in particular, parking at the bend and in the middle of the road, whilst tourists get out is just wreckless. It is only a matter of time before someone is injured or worse, and steps must be taken to ensure this does not happen.
Parking facilities at the castle are very limited and alternatives need to be found. I have written to the Department of Environment, the Department of Infrastructure and will be pursuing this matter with the Chief Executive of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council with urgency to ensure measures are in place as soon as possible. Alternative parking solutions should be found to enable even more tourists to enjoy what we have to offer.’
