Tributes to teen who lost life in north coast sea tragedy

1 Mins read

Tributes have been paid to teenager Vincent Gomez who died in an accident close to Dunluce Castle last week.

He died after getting into difficulty in the sea, despite his friends’ efforts to save him last week, Tuesday June 17.

Emergency services including HM Coastguard Air Support from Prestwick attended the incident however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Belfast Scout Troop’s Venture Scouts said “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Vincent Gomez, a former Venture scout on Tuesday evening under tragic circumstances following an incident with friends at the North coast.

Vincent was a dedicated member of the Venture section, attending expeditions to Portugal (2017), Hungary (2018) and Denmark (2019), and was a devoted attendee to every activity organised throughout each year he was a member. Vincent contributed much during his short time with the 11th Belfast Scout Group and his sudden passing is a shock to all members, in particular his fellow Venture scouts.

A GoFundMe has been set up by friends to support the Gomez family during this time, which can be found here. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated.

At such a difficult time, we ask that you keep in mind Vincent’s family, his friends who were with him that day and tried valiantly to save his life and to his fellow Ventures who are grieving the loss of their friend.

Another member of the 11th Belfast Scout Group has gone home.”

MLA Maurice Bradley said “It’s a tragedy and I would express my deepest sympathy to the immediate family and extended family circle on their loss. The north coast is a wonderful place but a very dangerous place and I would urge caution in and around the cliff edges and rocks.”
