Two dead following early morning crash near Carlingford

Two men have died following a serious crash in north Louth this morning.

The fatal single-vehicle crash happened on the R173 in Carlingford at around 12.35am this morning.

Both men – ages unknown – were pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was injured in the incident. Both deceased males have been removed to Louth County Hospital in Dundalk for post mortem examinations.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Carlingford Garda Station on 042-9373102, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Broadcaster RTÉ reported that gardaí had attempted to stop the vehicle prior to the collision. It is believed the men are from Northern Ireland.
