Ulster Unionist Cllr Joan Baird OBE has been appointed as the first UUP Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

Councillor Baird, whose background is in Housing and as a University lecturer said :

It is a great honour to take up this important position on Council and a great privileged to represent it’s citizens and such a beautiful area.

Councillor Baird was first elected to the legacy Council in Moyle in 2011 and subsequently to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in 2014 where she represents the Glens district electoral area .

Councillor Baird although new to the role of Mayor, has in the past acted as Chairman of several Boards in Northern Ireland including the charted institute of housing and Clanmil Housing association for which she was awarded an OBE in the 2014 honours list.

At the Council’s AGM on Monday night Councillor Baird said “my thanks to you for trusting me with the Mayor’s role, I pledge to work hard on your behalf in this Chamber and in the many public duties which I will take part in in the year going forward.”
