“Unashamedly irresponsible” proposals to hike rates by an additional 15.37% in Causeway Coast and Glens – McShane

1 Mins read

* Causeway Coast And Glens Independent Councillor Padraig McShane has described as “unashamedly irresponsible” proposals to hike rates by an additional 15.37% in Causeway Coast and Glens.

The Councillor was speaking following a meeting of the Finance Committee where the proposal was placed before Councillors last night.

In a statement to Causeway Coast Community he said ;

“The impact of this proposal has far-reaching consequences for the business sector.

It will throw businesses to the wall. Additionally, the most hard-hit will be those close to the poverty line.

We have some seriously high levels of deprivation in our Borough. The impact on those working poor will be greatest.

“The proposals are unrealistic and I reiterate my calls for a full forensic audit into how Causeway Coast and Glens got to this point.

I have outlined very serious concerns of financial mismanagement and I believe incidents of gross misconduct have been evidenced. To properly protect the people of Causeway Coast and Glens from this and return confidence and trust that investigation must take place immediately.
