A MAN caught driving a tractor without insurance on the Whitepark Road near Ballintoy claims he had taken it out to clear a septic tank of a friend of his mum’s.

Conor Butler (20), of Fairhead Road, Ballyvoy, had the offence detected on April 20 this year.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, on Monday, the defendant admitted a charge of using a vehicle without insurance.

A defence lawyer said: “At the request of his mother he had taken it out with a tanker to clear a septic tank for a friend of his mother’s”.

The defendant was given six penalty points and fined £200.
