Urgent need for Grasmere safety improvements says Bradley

1 Mins read

DUP MLA Maurice Bradley says he will continue to press the Department for Infrastructure for safety improvements at the Grasmere junction in Coleraine.

The East Londonderry representative says he is contacted on a weekly basis by residents in the area who have had near misses trying to exit from the residential development on to the ring road.

“My fear is that someone is going to be seriously injured or worse at this junction,” said Bradley.
“I have been pressing the Department for some time to have a look at the junction, however they keep telling me that it is ‘under review’.

“As improvements are currently underway in the area, I felt that now would be a good time to do something with the Grasmere junction. However, in correspondence to my office this week, the Department have advised that the current works do not involve any alterations to the existing road layout, and that they will keep the Grasmere junction ‘under review’ and ‘consider if any additional measures could be introduced’.

“The Department is of the opinion that the work that is currently being carried out to improve flow at the Ballycastle Road roundabout, will benefit residents, however I think that this will only make things more difficult as there will be less breaks in the traffic flow,” concluded the MLA.
