UUP Grouping To Raise Coleraine Parking Charges At Full Council Meeting

1 Mins read

The UUP will be requesting that standing orders be stood aside at the full council meeting on 19/12 to fully debate the issue of car Parking charges. This is actually the only meeting where any decision reached can be ratified.

In response to the comments from the DUP concerning a coordinated walkout by the UUP and other councillors nothing could be further from the truth.

The only coordination going on was coming from the DUP concerning the car Parking charges, they already had predicted the outcome of the meeting in Tuesday mornings edition of the Chronicle. The manner in which they attempted to control the meeting could not be tolerated, and if it had been given credence it would have led to chaos and dangerous precedents being set for future meetings. To have democracy as the normality for the future the only action was to have the meeting declared inquorate by our non attendance. Does this mean we agree with or are not sympathetic to the car Parking charges or those who have been affected – absolutely not!

The attempt by the DUP was grandstanding and oneupmanship which attempted to raise items at the wrong committees. To permit this would have opened a Pandora’s box which could lead to chaos for future committee meetings.
