Three life-saving ‘throw bags’ were thrown into the River Bann overnight and a spokesperson for Community Rescue Service have said that one of the posts was also vandalised and removed.
Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this afternoon DUP Trevor Clarke said ‘Life-saving ‘throw bags’ have been vandalised yet again in the local area. Whoever is doing this must stop. The potential consequences are stark. Lives are needlessly being put at risk through these mindless acts of vandalism.
I will be speaking to local police with regard to this and urging actions to apprehend the culprits.
I would also appeal to the community to be vigilant and contact police if you have any information that might help them with their enquiries’
Commenting on social media a CRS spokesperson said “Once again we’re having to post about the River Bann throw lines being vandalised and removed from their posts. Last night at least 3 were thrown into the river. If they aren’t on their posts, they can’t be used to save a life.
We also discovered that one of the actual posts were also vandalised and removed, we’re still looking for it.
Please spread the word that this equipment should be left for saving a life. Thank you.”
