2 Mins read

As part of Social Saturday Vineyard Compassion would love to announce that it is now selling its own Logs and Kindling (along with Coal, Peat & Firelighters) Mon-Fri 9am-5pm from Compassion offices: 10 Hillmans Way, Ballycastle Rd, Coleraine. TEL: 7022 0005.

Please support this vital project by picking up this limited special offer between Monday 10th October and Friday 21st October (x2 offers max per customer):

  • Soft Wood – £10 for 4 bags
  • Hard Wood – £15 for 4 bags
  • Kindling – £4 for 2 bags

(average moisture content 12-15%)

The Link social enterprise project offers a variety of voluntary work placements designed to increase clients’ confidence, skills, social networks and ultimately employability. Many clients within The Link are lacking in confidence after a long period of unemployment, others have mental health issues or are striving to break patterns of negative behaviour, such as drug or alcohol misuse.

This project operates within a social enterprise setting as a route towards employability. It gives people the opportunity to gain skill and expertise through participation in a working production line, producing wood kindling and logs for firewood. All proceeds from the sale of this kindling and seasoned & dried logs help support people towards employment and also provide much needed funding for other Vineyard Compassion projects (Foodbank, Debt Centre, Job Club etc) that tackle local poverty.

This social enterprise works actively towards giving clients purpose for their day, and improving their life choices and chances. On-going support is provided through a mentor, who may be a more experienced volunteer or a member of staff. This mentor supports clients by creating work opportunities that enhance self-esteem and self-confidence, provide structure and routine; encourage, motivate and set goals, and improve social and community involvement. Not only can clients benefit from the volunteering experience but they can also ‘give something back’ and be the ‘helper’ rather than simply the ‘helped’. The Link mantra is that it isn’t just about getting work done, it’s about getting people done through work.

Further one to one support is given through the Compassion Support team, and all clients are encouraged to attend the CAP Job Club to build capacity and increase employability. Work placements include Causeway Foodbank, Wear House clothing bank, GROW Allotment, Textile Recycling, Vineyard Market: Car Boot Sale, etc. Each Friday morning starts with a light breakfast, then a work session, a communal tea-break then another work session, finishing with a communal lunch.

Come along to support this vital project by picking up some longs on special offer between Monday 10th and Friday 21st October.
