‘Warm driver took off seat belt so he could remove jumper’

1 Mins read

A Coleraine teenager was fined £75 and given three penalty points after pleading guilty to failing to wear a seatbelt.

Coleraine Magistrates Court heard, on Monday, how 18-year-old Michael Higgins, of Quilly Road, had been detected in Portrush on April 22 this year.

His lawyer recalled how Higgins had been too warm and had taken off his seat belt to remove his jumper, stressing that the apprentice mechanic’s job would be in jeopardy without his licence.

The court was told that Higgins “apologised unreservedly.”
