There’s nothing better than a good old sing-along!
And the residents of one Coleraine housing development are putting their vocal chords to good use and raising money for the NHS during these difficult times.
Well known local musician Trevor Keys has been entertaining his neighbours in Willowfield, during the one minute ‘Clap for Carers’ every Thursday night. Trevor has a wealth of songs on his play list from his Showband days, and the Willowfield residents are loving the Thursday night sing-a-longs.
Mary Crawford a resident of Willowfield spoke to Causeway Coast Community, she told: “Trevor came out a few weeks ago and gave us a wee song whilst we were out clapping.
“He sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, it was the week that Cpt Tom Moore hit the headlines, after that it became a weekly thing.
“I spoke to Trevor and we came up with the idea of collecting a few pounds of each neighbour for the NHS, we are all aware of the work that has been going on by the teams in our hospitals and out in our community.
“There are carers that visit one resident in Willowfield and the first night we did it, they were very emotional. It is nice just to give something back, and we are hoping to continue this on through May,” said Mary.
“It’s just good old community spirit. There are only 17 houses in Willowfield, and only about 14 of them are occupied. It’s just good to see everyone and we all give each other a wave and have a wee singalong,” said Mary.
