Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Public Protection Branch have welcomed the sentence handed down to a 32-year-old man at Belfast Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday 3rd November 2021.
Thomas Lowry was sentenced to 4 years for a number of sexual offences against a child, including sexual assault and causing a child between 13 and 16 to engage in sexual activity.
He will serve 2 years in custody and 2 years on licence, and has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Detective Constable Greene said: "The offences committed by Lowry were sickening and despicable. While today’s sentencing can never undo his actions, I hope it will provide some degree of comfort to the victim and her family.
“The traumatic ordeal took place some years ago, and I would like to acknowledge the tremendous courage of the young female victim in coming forward. I hope her strength will encourage others who may have suffered any form of sexual abuse to speak up.
“Please be assured that we have specially trained officers who will treat victims with sensitivity and respect – at every stage of the process. Contact us on 101, or in an emergency call 999.”
Throughout this investigation police worked closely with colleagues in the Public Prosecution Service.
