Man on Christmas holiday drink binge ‘wasted’ emergency services resources

1 Mins read
Ballymena Court

A MAN on a drinking binge over the Christmas holidays made calls to police on the 999 system that he was going to “slice” his throat but when ambulance staff went out he refused to go to hospital.

Ryan Hatton (36), of Glenarm Court in Ballymena, then assaulted police and attempted to damage a police car.

A small knife was found hidden under a cushion.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday he was sentenced on charges of assaulting police; resisting police; attempting to damage a police car and improper use of electronic communications relating to December 29 last year.

Defence solicitor Garret McCann said the defendant wished to apologise as he realised “calls of this nature are a complete waste of resources”.

The defendant was given 80 hours of Community Service and put on Probation for a year.
