East Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley has encouraged constituents to consider Organ Donation as a “gift to others” in times of tragedy and sadness.
He said: “Next week, September 20, is Organ Donor Week. I am an Organ Donor and have been for a long number of years.
“It is something I made a conscious decision to do during my early 20s and something I have maintained ever since.
“It is the thought of perhaps upon the end of my life whether by natural means or tragedy, my organs may be of use in helping someone in need of a new organ have a better quality of life.
“I know there is a debate on-going at the minute over Organ Donation, and it is a very personal decision.
“My daughter, who is a nurse, is aware I am a donor, will be able to give permission for any of my organs that may help another needing a donor organ which could be a matter of life or death for that unfortunate person.“I would appeal to people who are enjoying good health to think about becoming a donor.
“None of us know what tomorrow may bring, but if in death, I can help a life, it is a choice In believe is worth making.
