The improvements to the network are expected to boost broadband speeds to over 38,000 premises.
BT are providing the scheme with help from the Northern Ireland Department of Enterprise and the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The work comes as part of a £790m investment to extend super-fast broadband coverage to 95% of the UK by 2017.
It will begin with an extensive survey over the coming months in Northern Ireland before the network re-engineering begins.
