Animals must be pre-stunned, Swann urges SF Minister.

1 Mins read

Mr Robin Swann MLA,the Ulster Unionist Party’s Westminster candidate for North Antrim, has challenged the Sinn Fein Farming Minister “to give a cast-iron guarantee that all animals slaughtered in Northern Ireland under halal conditions are pre-stunned before slaughter.

Mr Swann sought this “much-needed assurance” after the minister revealed that 193,470 sheep were slaughtered for the halal market in 2014.

Mr Swann said: “I have tabled a number of additional questions to the Minister to ensure I am fully satisfied that all these animals were indeed pre-stunned and that no undue and unnecessary suffering was caused during the slaughtering process.”
