It has been revealed that the cost of the Kevin McDaid trial to the taxpayer exceeded £1.8m.
Kevin McDaid died after being attacked outside his Coleraine home in May 2009. Damien Fleming, a friend of Mr McDaid was also badly beaten.
Nine men were jailed for their involvement in the attack, they were originally charged with manslaughter and attempted murder but pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
The Justice Minister, David Ford revealed that cost of the trial is estimated to be more than £1.8m, including over £1.6m of legal aid, £124,000 prosecution fees and court costs of more than £30,000.
These figures exclude the costs of Police Resources used in preparation for the trial.
