NI man sentenced to six years in prison

Detectives have welcomed the sentencing of a 43 year old man at Craigavon Crown Court on Wednesday, 14th September.

The man was sentenced to 12 years for two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, two counts of attempted rape, one count of voyeurism, two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration.

He will serve a total of six years in prison and six years on licence.

He will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 7 years and has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Detective Sergeant Ryan said: "Officers in the Police Service of Northern Ireland remain committed to investigating all reports of sexual offences against children and young people. We will seek to place offenders before the courts so they can be made amenable for their crimes.

“Please be assured that we have specially trained officers who will treat victims with sensitivity and respect – at every stage of the process. I would continue to encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual abuse to contact police on 101, or in an emergency call 999.”
