David Ford to resign from Alliance Party leadership after 15 years

South Antrim MLA and former Justice Minister David Ford MLA is to resign from his post as Alliance Party leader after 15 years.

Mr Ford will officially step down tomorrow, 6th October, on what will be the 15th anniversary of his election to the party’s leadership.

After Mr Ford steps down, MLAs will have until the end of the month to submit nominations for the leadership.

East Belfast MLA Naomi Long will take over as Acting Leader after Mr Ford’s resignation, and is expected to be the only candidate seeking election to the party’s leadership.
