Facebook reduces video quality in Europe amid virus pandemic

Facebook is temporarily downgrading the quality of video streaming in Europe on its platforms Facebook and Instagram, joining Disney+, Netflix, YouTube and Amazon.

The move aims at easing the load on Internet infrastructure during the coronavirus crisis.

A spokesperson said “To help alleviate any potential network congestion, we will temporarily reduce bit rates for videos on Facebook and Instagram in Europe,”
