Paul Frew DUP assembly member for North Antrim has welcomed the DUP Education Minister’s announcement which will allow primary schools to prepare pupils for transfer tests.
Schools will now be allowed to support pupils and carry out preparation for transfer tests.
Paul Frew stated “This is great news as schools will now be able to fully prepare pupils for transfers tests, without the threat of Department guidance being used against them. This had been a shameful situation for the previous Education Minister to place schools under this pressure .
This will give all schools more autonomy to prepare Children as they see fit and create a more level playing field for pupils.
Beforehand we had a situation in which most schools were preparing children for tests anyway while others stuck rigidly to the previous Minister’s guidelines.
During the Assembly election the DUP stated its support for academic selection and the need for greater autonomy for schools. Minister Weir is delivering on DUP manifesto commitments which were endorsed by the electorate.”
Reversing the department’s guidance to allow schools to prepare children for transfer tests, will hopefully reduce the need for private tuition and allow parents to chose whether that option is required without the added pressure .
The announcement will make the transfer process easier for children, parents and teachers and clarifies the department’s position. A first step in progress regarding transfer .
