Thousands of protesters have gathered outside Belfast City Hall over the death of George Floyd as Britain’s police say they are “horrified” by the violence and destruction in the US.
The protest in Belfast started around 3pm in solidarity with protests in the US. People are chanting, “no justice, no peace” while holding up signs.
PSNI say that a number of roads in the vicinity of Belfast City Hall have been closed due to an ongoing demonstration and diversions are in place.
George Floyd’s death has sparked protests across the US, with demonstrators desperately calling for an end to police violence.
Mr Floyd was an unarmed black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes as he told them “I can’t breathe”.
