Man convicted of serious sexual offences and child cruelty offences against children under the age of 16

1 Mins read

Detectives from PSNI’s Public Protection Branch have welcomed the conviction of a man, aged in his 50’s for a number of historical serious sexual offences and child cruelty offences against children under the age of 16.

In Antrim Crown Court earlier today, Tuesday 04 February, he was sentenced to a total of 10 years, 5 of which will be served in prison and 5 on licence. He cannot work with vulnerable persons or children for 10 years after his release.

Detective Constable Downey said: “The victims in this case have displayed immense courage in coming forward to police and I welcome the fact that this offender is now behind bars. I hope that their resolution to bring him to justice will encourage anyone else who has experienced any form of sexual abuse to come forward to police.

“Officers in PSNI’s Public Protection Branch are committed to investigating all reports of sexual assault and we seek to place offenders before the courts so they can be made amenable for their crimes. We have specially trained officers who will treat you with sensitivity and respect. I would continue to encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual assault to contact police on 101.”
