MLAs back motion calling for the Government to extend the furlough scheme beyond October

1 Mins read

Stormont MLAs have backed a motion calling for the Government to extend the furlough scheme beyond October.

Sinn Fein successfully amended an SDLP motion to insert an additional call for the scheme’s deadlines to be changed to allow for new people to join it, such as those employed by businesses that may have to close in future lockdowns.

The motion, which is non-binding, was passed without need for a formal vote in the Assembly chamber on Monday evening.
