A gate has been installed at Portnahapple, Portstewart as part of ongoing enhancement works which includes the provision of new steps and path refurbishment.
Portnahapple has been a popular bathing location since the mid-20th century.
A council spokesperson said "The gate is currently locked as we await the final installation of the new steps which will ensure safe access to the water.
"As part of the management of the site, based upon an assessment of the risk, Council may temporarily remove the steps during periods of stormy weather or in certain tidal conditions.
"During these times, the gate will be locked and public access will be temporarily restricted for safety reasons.
"Signage will be erected to inform of this approach, and we would appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation.”
