Plans lodged to turn former school into Well Being Centre

Plans have been submitted that could see a former school on the Seacoast Road, Limavady turned into a Well Being Centre.

If approved, the former Bellarena Primary School will see a change of use to a Well Being Centre incorporating a tea room, meeting room, arts and crafts room and outdoor adventure centre.

The applicant is Benevenagh Enterprises Ltd and the application will go before Council's planning committee within the next few months.

The primary school closed its doors after more than 150 years in June 2019 as the Department Of Education said 'there were no longer enough pupils.'

At that time announcing the closure, Department of Education, permanent secretary Derek Baker said while he was conscious of the 'strong historical and emotional attachment' of rural schools, Bellarena Primary School's enrolment number had been on a 'downward trajectory over time' and it 'did not currently operate' within budget.
