PSNI whistleblowers to appear in court

Two Police Service of Northern Ireland whistleblowers who spoke publicly on a BBC Spotlight programme about serious allegations of misconduct and negligence in one of the largest police districts in Northern Ireland are to appear in court charged with knowingly or recklessly obtaining or disclosing personal data without the consent of the data controller.

Responding to a query submitted by Causeway Coast Community a PSNI spokesperson said; "The Police Service of Northern Ireland undertook a criminal investigation into an incident on 24th January 2019 and a file was submitted to the Public Prosecution Service."

A former security employee of a Coleraine supermarket is also due to appear on the same charge.

All three are to appear before Coleraine Magistrates Court sitting in Ballymena Magistrates on 4th August 2022.
