Sinn Féin Councillor, Cara McShane, has welcomed the Council’s decision to progress to the detailed design, planning and procurement stages for the new £14.9 million Ballycastle Leisure Centre. The decision taken at last night’s Leisure and Development Committee, which included an outlined timeframe for project completion, will proceed to the full Council in two weeks for final ratification.
Cllr Cara McShane said:
“This is another significant step forward for Ballycastle’s Leisure Centre project. The £8.1million announced recently from the Levelling Up Fund has been a catalyst in finally realising the development of this much-needed leisure provision in the town.
“The project will include a 25m pool (4 lane), gym, large studio, changing, reception/office, wet play and spa, café, changing places facility, bouldering wall, outdoor pump track, off-road running/walking trail and accessible play park.
“While Council has committed to the 45% match-funding, officers continue to explore other potential external funding opportunities, including environment-focused funds which reflect the aspirations of the Operational Net Zero new leisure facility.”
