Coleraine and District League weekend preview

2 Mins read

WEATHER permitting, it is hoped to fulfil a full fixtures programme this Saturday in the Coleraine and  District League.

It’s Cup day in both the Afternoon and Morning Leagues.

Several interesting ties are down for decision, notably Portrush at home to Ballycastle United at Parker Avenue.

Both teams are pretty evenly balanced, perhaps decided by the odd goal while at Paddy’s Park in Dervock, the home side entertain Garvagh, who inflicted a rare league defeat on the reigning champions a few weeks ago.

A home win is expected while at Craiglee Gardens, perhaps the tie of the round sees Heights travel to Kilrea United.

Again, two top footballing sides challenging for honours on. few fronts, this one might need extra time to produce a winner.

At Megaw Park, Riada entertain Aghadowey in a tie that could also go any way.

The result here will be who finds their scoring touch and with Chrissy Dempsey in such good form at the moment, it could be Aghadowey.

It is also Cup day in the Morning League.

Three games are down for decision and with both Dunaghy teams drawn at home, the Old Boys will play Landhead Road while Dunaghy will be at the Joey Dunlop Centre.

At Paddy’s Park, Dervock Reserves have Articlave as visitors. A close game with the home side slight favourites while at Landhead Road, Dunaghy Old Boys entertain a Tullans Red Star side who have had a dip in form.

However, Nigel Calvin’s men will be keen to do well and will be up for the game, but Dunaghy will be a stiff test.

Coleraine Olympic put up a strong challenge to Kilrea United in last weekend’s North-West Junior Cup tie at the Crescent. This weekend they travel to Dunagbny at the Joey Dunlop Centre where they will be keen to replicate the ki9nd of football played last weekend.

Dunaghy are also a good footballing side so the ti should be entertaining although Olympic should go through.

There are also three games due to be played in the Morning League Division One.

Ballycastle United have Macosquin as visitors with the Villagers looking at least a point while at the Joey Dunlop Centre,  The Ballymoney United Reserves and Heights Reserves game could result in points shared.

Portstewart Town entertain a vastly improved Sperrin Athletic at The Warren where home advantage could saw the game the home side’s way.

Portstewart Town Blues visit Dunloy Reserves at the Joey Dunlop Centre with the North Antrim side favourites for the spoils.

The big Coleraine derby between Ballyrashane and Millburn takes place this weekend at Rugby Avenue. A cracker of a game in store with a possibility of the points being shared.
