Tiger Woods’ Early Arrival to Portrush!

Tiger Woods will be arriving in Portrush in July 2019, to inspect the Royal Portrush Golf course before the 2019 Open Championships. The 14-time golf champion is familiar with golfing in Ireland, but he is not familiar with the courses of Northern Ireland’s golf clubs. The Open Championships is the oldest Major competition, returning to Portrush for the first time in 67 years and he is very enthusiastic in doing a few practice swings before the contest begins.

“It’s going to be a little strange for all of us playing next year’s Open Championship given it’s been well over 60 years since the Open was last at the Royal in Portrush.” He said before competing in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, last week. He also knows that Darren Clarke, G Mac McDowell and former world number one Rory McIlroy are familiar with the course since they have had experience on the course over their careers.

While Woods competes in his upcoming competitions, the 130 year-old golf course has been moved up 5 more places in Golf Monthly’s Top 100 golf course rankings. The golf course is now the 8th best course in the UK and Ireland. According to Golf Monthly magazine the ‘Achilles’ heel’ was a pair of inspiring finishing holes, they have now been replaced by two newly added holes described as “Extremely impressive” by reviewers of the course. “The new holes – 7th and 8th – are absolutely stunning creations and that fit seamlessly into the routing,” the magazine stated.

The golf magazine has ranked the US President, Donald Trump’s course, the Turnberry as the number 1 golf course in UK and Ireland. After the successful competition of the Irish Open on Portstewart’s Strand Links has surged onto the top 100 for the first time. The Open will begin on 18th of July and end on the 21st. The contestants better get their game faces on for one of the biggest golf competitions in the world.
