SuperValu invests £1.1M in rejuvenated Portstewart Store

Leading convenience retailer SuperValu will officially launch its rejuvenated Portstewart store on Friday, 12 August, following an investment of £1.1 million.

To mark the occasion, Happy Pear brothers Stephen and David Flynn, whose plant-based range of products will launch in Northern Ireland at SuperValu Portstewart, will open the revamped store and kick start a day of fun for all the family.

Locals are invited to visit SuperValu on the day to enjoy a cookery demonstration from celebrity home cook Suzie Lee, enjoy Moo’d ice cream sampling, balloon modelling, face painting, wine tasting and to try some delicious paella from Ocho Tapas. There will also be lots of prizes to win while U105 and radio presenter Carolyn Stewart will be broadcasting live from the store.

The major investment has allowed for new and exciting additions in store including an expanded food-to-go offering with a new hot and cold deli counter, a rotisserie chicken range, and an enhanced in-store bakery.

The Moo’d Ice Cream counter will offer a wide range of sweet treats while coffee lovers can enjoy a hot drink-to-go from the new Frank and Honest 2.0 Coffee dock which offers an even greater selection of hot drinks and features 100% compostable coffee cups, plastic free coffee capsules and Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee beans. Customers can also benefit from the brand’s digital loyalty app which offers a free coffee after earning ten digital stamps.

The store also boasts a new look off-licence with an improved premium range of beers, wines, and spirits plus a dedicated zero zone.

With increasing consumer focus on shopping local, customers can expect an extended range of fresh, local produce in the Portstewart store at great prices. SuperValu owner, Musgrave NI works with more than 3,000 local farmers, partners with over 150 local suppliers, stocks over 3,000 local products across its stores and buys £160m worth of local food and drink annually.

Part of Musgrave NI’s company-owned portfolio, the store is powered using green electricity and features new digital screens, energy efficient LED lighting, a top-grade energy efficient refrigeration system and electronic shelf edge labels as Musgrave works to achieve its net zero ambition by 2040.

Shoppers will also benefit from a brand-new seating area, self-service tills, refreshed customer toilet facilities, customer Wi-Fi and USB charging points.

The upgraded store has created six new jobs in the local area, adding to the existing workforce of 49.

Commenting on the revamp, store manager Cathie Carton said: “The whole team and I are really excited to welcome customers, existing and new, to our amazing, rejuvenated store in the heart of Portstewart. We hope shoppers will enjoy all of the new and exciting concepts and the great value and service on offer, and we are always on hand to help our customers have the best shopping experience possible.”

Caroline Rowan, Head of Retail Operations for SuperValu, added:

“This is a significant investment in Portstewart and the first of our SuperValu stores to unveil this new modern format. Our focus is on redefining convenience and ensuring we continue to meet the needs of the modern customer. The store has been designed with the local community in mind, ensuring they have access to the best products and offers on their doorstep.  We are also firmly committed to being more sustainable and have significantly invested in new energy saving technology across the store, including state-of-the-art CO2 refrigeration, making the store as efficient and green as possible.

“With the cost-of-living continuing to rise, it’s clear that keeping household costs down is front of mind for our customers. As part of SuperValu’s commitment to value, shoppers from Portstewart and the surrounding area will benefit from over 200 special offers on big brands every week and over 400 cheaper own brand products. And with more than 500 of our branded products price-checked against Tesco, we are committed to delivering the best value for our customers across our entire range.”

SuperValu Portstewart is open from 6am to 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 11pm on Sundays.
