Belfast Zoo has announced the name of their new female baby Rothschild’s giraffe. The adorable giraffe was born in the zoo’s giraffe house on February 5th, 2023, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Zoo staff had selected a range of six names and put it up for a public vote. After a massive response from the public, the name ‘Ballysally’ was chosen as the clear winner.
It is traditional at Belfast Zoo to name their giraffes after places that begin with “Bally”. The selection of Ballysally marks the latest addition to the zoo’s efforts to help save one of the most endangered giraffe subspecies. Belfast Zoo is part of an international breeding programme to protect and conserve these magnificent animals.
The arrival of Ballysally has captured the hearts of many.
Why not visit Ballysally this weekend? The zoo is open from 10am until 4pm (last entry is currently 2.30pm).
