A COURT heard a woman secured the front door at her home with a wooden plank after her ‘ex-partner’ tried to gain entrance to her home in the run up to Christmas

Details of incidents in Portstewart, emerged at Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena.

Mark Laurence Woods (46), with an address in Tandragee, admitted attempting to cause criminal damage to a door and he also admitted making a threat to damage the door.

The court heard the defendant had been verbally abusive after arriving at the house and refused to leave around 10pm.

He then returned at 1.30am and kicked the door and around half an hour later he phoned saying he would “kick the front door”.

His ex-partner then secured the door with a wooden plank and contacted police.

When arrested the defendant was unfit for interview until the following day.

A defence solicitor said the defendant had spent time in custody on remand.

Woods was given a three months prison term, suspended for two years.
